Douglas County commissioners issue multiple proclamations, approve routine business and announce community events

At its June 16 meeting the Douglas County Board of Commissioners adopted proclamations recognizing Public Safety Week, Goodwill of North Georgia Day, Autistic Pride Day and Juneteenth; the board also approved routine minutes, financial reports, a consent agenda and expenses, and heard community announcements.
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners on June 16 adopted several proclamations and completed routine business during a regularly scheduled meeting at the Douglas County Courthouse.
The board unanimously approved proclamations recognizing June 15–18 as Public Safety Appreciation Week; June 16 as Goodwill of North Georgia Day; June 18 as Autistic Pride Day; and June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day. Sarah Ray read the Public Safety Appreciation Week proclamation honoring the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Fire/EMS, Emergency Management Agency and communications personnel. Yvette Jones read the Goodwill proclamation and highlighted the organization’s 100 years of service and its Douglasville retail location. Sofia Serrano, introduced in the meeting as a Douglas County High School student, read the Autistic Pride Day proclamation and cited statistics about autism prevalence included in the proclamation language. Kristen Moses read the Juneteenth proclamation commemorating June 19, 1865.
The board also approved routine items by unanimous votes: the meeting agenda (3–0), minutes from June 1–2 (3–0), the May 2026 financial report (3–0), the consent agenda (3–0) and the May expenses filed for Commissioner Alvarez (3–0). The clerk recorded electronic vote tallies for these items as 3–0; the transcript does not contain a roll-call breakdown for individual member votes beyond the tallies.
Chief Communications Officer Yvette Jones provided several community announcements: a District 1 initiative on prostate cancer awareness; a Watch the Cup Douglas fan zone at Boundary Waters Complex on June 27; a free-fare Connect Douglas 'Dump the Pump' transit day on June 17; a Juneteenth jamboree on June 18 at the Douglas County Courthouse; and county office and transit service closures for the Juneteenth holiday on June 19. The county noted that normal Connect Douglas service would resume on June 20.
Chair Ramona Jackson Jones closed the meeting after the county attorney advised that an executive session was not needed; the board adjourned by unanimous vote.
