Planning commission recommends rezoning for property at 1690 Road to allow accessory building

The Dawson County Planning Commission on an oral vote recommended approval of a rezoning request for a roughly 5.3-acre parcel at 1690 Road to allow an accessory building to be constructed prior to the primary residence.
Applicant Tyler Hester told the commission he bought the property a few months ago and intends to “put up a little barn” to store tractors and equipment and begin small-scale farming while his family arranges to build a permanent home within about a year. “We plan on building within the next year,” Hester said.
The Chair opened for public comment but recorded none. A member moved to recommend approval; the motion was seconded and the Chair recorded the motion carried and said the case will be presented to the Board of Commissioners next month for a final decision.
The commission’s recommendation does not finalize the rezoning. Staff will forward the case to the Board of Commissioners, which holds the next review in a public work session and subsequent voting hearing as announced by staff.
