Supervisors approve liquor/wine licenses, hire correctional officer and accept routine reports

At the June 16 meeting the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors approved several routine business items, including liquor licensing, personnel and departmental reports.
The board approved a Class E native wine retail license for River Ridge Farm after the chair noted the sheriff had no objection. The board also approved a Class C liquor license for the Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course; the chair again noted the sheriff had no objection to the license.
The supervisors approved a personnel action to hire Paul Brockett as a new correctional officer (77.11 hours) with an annual salary recorded in the meeting as $50,072.70. The board moved, seconded and recorded assent on the roll call for the hire.
County fee reports were presented for the clerk of court and the sheriff (fees collected for May 2026); the chair said those reports will be on file in the auditor's office and available for public review. The board also approved minutes of the June 9, 2026 meeting.
During department reports earlier in the meeting the county treasurer reported on the annual tax sale: "out of the 499 parcels that were offered, the taxes were sold on 03/1968, for a total of a little over $425,000 that was collected," the treasurer said. The transcript contains a garbled date/identifier for some tax-sale detail; the dollar figure recorded in the meeting was approximately $425,000. The treasurer told the board staff would complete certificate issuances and wrap-up steps.
