Bolivar leaders hold moment of silence after two Christian County deputies killed

Police Chief Johns addressed the Bolivar Board of Aldermen on Feb. 24, urging the community to remember two deputies killed in the line of duty and asking for a moment of silence.
"Yesterday afternoon, Deputy Gabriel Ramirez was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Highlandville," Chief Johns said, and later reported that "Christian County Deputy Michael Hislop was shot and killed" during the suspect’s capture. He told the board the suspect is deceased and there is "no further threat to the community from this incident." The chief also said two additional deputies were wounded and are receiving treatment and in stable condition.
Chief Johns offered condolences and prayers for the families, coworkers and public safety personnel affected by the events, saying, "My heart is heavy tonight for the losses of the Christian County Sheriff's Office." He asked those in the meeting and viewers at home to observe a moment of silence for the fallen and wounded.
Mayor (speaker S1) and council members discussed whether to lower flags to half-staff; City Administrator Elford (S6) advised waiting for a state directive from the governor before taking independent action.
The board’s public acknowledgment and the chief’s briefing came at the start of a regularly scheduled meeting that continued with routine business and subsequent agenda items.
