Hardyston honors teacher Holly Roman with statewide elementary STEM award

The Hardyston Township Board of Education recognized Holly Roman, a fourth-grade STEM teacher, for receiving the 2025 Anton Benko award from the New Jersey Science Convention. The board said the award recognizes excellence in elementary science teaching and includes a $2,000 stipend to support instruction, as well as the opportunity to represent the district at the statewide convention in October.
Board members praised Roman's classroom work connecting science across disciplines and bringing students to hands-on learning experiences, including field work at High Point State Park. Roman, who said she has taught in the district for more than three decades, thanked colleagues and families and reiterated her commitment to student inquiry and community engagement.
The board said the recognition highlights the district's emphasis on STEM programming and on supporting teacher leadership and professional contributions statewide.
