Rolfe council splits on pool grant permission; final pool budget decision postponed

Council members and several residents raised pool funding and budgeting questions during the meeting; four people requested to speak specifically about the pool and the next budget cycle. After discussion, the council tabled any final decision on the pool budget (motion by Tammy Shimon, seconded by Aaron Cox), postponing a binding budget choice to a later date.
City Clerk Brandi Henderson also reported continuing complaints about the budget-billing program and said she would like to see it discontinued; the council took no action on the budget-billing proposal during the session. The council noted that grant-seeking by a resident does not obligate the city to provide matching funds or to change the budget at this meeting.
The council’s postponement leaves pool financing unresolved heading into broader budget work and a March 30 public hearing on utility rates that could affect revenues available for capital or operating needs.
