The Carpinteria Unified School District board on June 16 approved the district’s 2026–27 Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and adopted the district’s 2026–27 proposed budget, and voted to approve several routine procurement and personnel items.
In the budget presentation, a staff presenter summarized the district’s projected general‑fund balances for 2026–27: a projected ending unrestricted balance of $6,000,000 that includes a 3% reserve (about $1,200,000) and an undesignated fund balance of roughly $4,700,000. The presenter said multiyear projections show that undesignated balance growing in subsequent years and cited board policy aiming for a 10% fund balance as rationale for maintaining reserves (staff presenter). "Inside that $6,000,000 is our 3% reserve, which is that $1,200,000," the presenter said during the slide review.
The board approved a set of consent and regular‑agenda items. Purchases the board authorized included Chromebooks and Google licenses for incoming ninth graders and replacements at a total cost the district stated as $126,833.70 to be paid from the general fund; new middle‑school kitchen equipment funded by a state kit grant with a low bid of $54,414.70; GPS monitoring equipment for district vehicles and installation with a total cost reported as $36,019.19 paid from the transportation budget; and the subscription to Clear ProFlex residency‑verification software from Thomson Reuters at a monthly cost of $535 to help staff resolve roughly 50 families with conflicting residency data (staff member). Staff said Clear ProFlex will not change the process families follow when enrolling; it will be used on the back end to verify records.
On personnel, the board approved routine personnel assignments, one retirement and two resignations. The board also approved AB 1200 public disclosure for a 4% salary increase for non‑represented employees (certificated administrators, psychologists, classified managers, supervisors and confidential employees), effective July 1, 2026, with a total cost the district reported as $165,536 to be paid from general, restricted and other funds; the superintendent was listed as excluded from that increase in the disclosure.
All motions reported in the meeting transcript were seconded and called to a vote and were approved during the session; the transcript records vocal roll‑call-style approvals (the board vocalized "aye" for approved motions). The board president called for and accepted motions to adopt the LCAP and to adopt the 2026–27 budget after the second reading.
Board members and staff also provided operational updates and announcements, including summer meal schedules at Aliso School and Carpinteria High School and summer academic programs such as credit recovery, a culinary academy and dual‑enrollment offerings.
The meeting adjourned after the scheduled business.
