Board approves MOU with NextGen Health Careers to continue health-care CTE pathway

The board voted to approve a memorandum of understanding to transition an existing health-care career pathway program to a new partner, NextGen Health Careers, a recently formed LLC that spun out of Freedom Academy.
The presenter said the instructor—Jackie Gill—will continue to run the program and will be evaluated under the district's teacher-evaluation rubric even though she is not a district employee. "We will pay for our students the CTE funding we receive for each of the courses in that health careers pathway unless the students receive the CSA (career scholarship funding)," the presenter said, explaining the state-level funding interaction and that NextGen may bill the state directly for up to $6,000 in program expenses.
Administrators noted the program will serve AM and PM sessions, with students meeting at Angola High School and rotating through clinical experiences; next year the program will include 20 students from Angola and 10 from Fremont. The board approved the MOU.
