Harrisburg Housing Authority and partners roll out 11th season of ETC summer jobs program

Marcus Williamson of the Harrisburg Housing Authority and Clarence Watson, program director, presented the Environmental Team Corporation (ETC) summer jobs program, now in its 11th season. Watson described crews for graffiti removal, riverbank cleanup, mulching and a fledgling gleaning program that donates roughly 800 pounds of produce to food banks. He said applications were already strong (about 115 in two weeks) and the program runs July 6 through Aug. 11.
Watson said the program teaches work habits and social skills, provides on‑the‑job experiences that helped participants gain later employment, and leverages partnerships with public works and local institutions. Council members asked about CPR certification for staff and some youth; Watson agreed to arrange training. Council also discussed transportation, volunteer opportunities and options to expand the program if additional grant funds were secured.
Vice President Jones and other members praised the program’s outcomes and asked staff to coordinate publicity and additional partnerships to avoid duplication of services as city revitalization efforts move forward.
