The Housing, Urban Development and Zoning Committee moved Board Bill 44 forward after Alderman Laura Keyes explained the ordinance would transfer a small, unbuildable city-owned parcel at 4052 Camellia Avenue to adjoining property owner William Jarman for $200.
Clerk-read bill language described the lot as vacant and noted the sale price of $200. Keyes said Jarman has been ‘‘caring for this lot for a number of years’’ and that giving him the lot as a side yard would allow continued maintenance and improve the block. Bridal Coleman, deputy comptroller for finance, told the committee the comptroller’s office supported the sale.
Committee members expressed general support and thanked Jarman and city staff for resolving what they called a common issue of small, overgrown slivers in the northern wards. The committee voted in favor of the bill (recorded: six aye votes) and advanced it with a due-pass recommendation.
The sale will require recording of the deed and administrative follow-up by city real-estate staff.
