The Westbury Union Free School District Board on June 16 approved two administrative appointments and granted tenure to 25 employees.
Superintendent Dr. Chase recommended Reginald Wesley Warren for the principalship at Westbury High School, saying the candidate fit the profile developed in a student‑led thought exercise at the high school. Dr. Plentz Dickerson moved the nomination and Vice President Floyd Ewing seconded; the board voted to approve the appointment. After the vote, Warren spoke briefly to the audience and said he would ‘‘be of service’’ to the community and remain accessible to families and staff.
The board also appointed Jonathan Gill as district director of athletics, health and physical education following the retirements of the district’s prior athletics leaders. Superintendent Chase described Gill’s background in coaching and administration; Gill said he was ‘‘honored and excited’’ to join the Westbury community. Vice President Floyd Ewing moved the motion to appoint Gill and trustee Flores seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Separately, the board considered a block motion to grant tenure to 25 district employees across Dryden Street, Drexel Avenue, Park Avenue, Powells Lane, Westbury Middle School, Westbury High School and district programs. The board reviewed the list of names presented by administration and approved tenure for all 25 candidates by a single roll‑call vote.
