Pegram board approves purchase of sewer plant site for $123,080

The Town of Pegram Board of Mayor and Alderman approved the purchase of 23.00 acres that include a sewer plant parcel on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, voting 4–0 with one abstention. Alderman Randy Howington moved to accept the contract and Vice Mayor Bob Sanders seconded; Howington, Sanders, Mayor Charles Morehead and Alderman Miranda Montgomery voted in favor, and Michael Paszek abstained because of a conflict of interest.
The board recorded that the primary 20.97-acre parcel was appraised at $106,500.00 and the seller offered an additional 2.03 acres for $10,080.00. The seller also requested $4,000.00 for loss of revenue stemming from inability to farm near drip field lines and $2,500.00 for an installed gate, bringing the purchase total for the full 23.00 acres to $123,080.00.
The purchase contract includes an easement reserved for the property owner and an agreement for the Town to maintain the existing access road. The board noted a contractual caveat: if the road is ever paved in connection with future land development, the street would convert to a public street under town practice.
Town attorney Martha Brooke Perry, engineer Luke Sullivan and recorder Tina Morehead were listed as present for the special called meeting. The board called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m. and adjourned at 4:11 p.m. after approving the purchase. The meeting minutes were posted by the town (posted 12-16-2025).
