Planning Commissioner Bill Herbert to resign Sept. 9; commission directs attorney to revise bylaws

At its Sept. 8 meeting the Pegram Planning Commission heard an announcement that Commissioner Bill Herbert will resign effective Sept. 9 and unanimously approved a motion directing the commission attorney to draft changes to the commission bylaws, including election timing and quorum rules, for review at the next meeting.
Chairman Gene Hannah announced at the Sept. 8 Planning Commission meeting that Commissioner Bill Herbert is resigning his seat effective Sept. 9, 2025, because he is moving outside the city limits.
The commission then discussed proposed changes to its bylaws. Attorney Martha Brooke Perry recommended adopting a revised version that specifies planning commission elections will be held in September, requires four members for a quorum, designates the secretary or a designee to take minutes, and provides that if a meeting falls on a federal holiday it will be moved to 7 p.m. on another business day.
Commissioner Jason Picanzo moved to have the attorney make the changes to the bylaws for commission review before a vote; Jim Durham seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor and the motion carried.
The commission also noted that the October meeting dates will be changed in the bylaws; the attorney was authorized to prepare that change and bring the revised bylaws back for review and a formal vote at the next meeting.
