Auditors appoint leadership, approve benefits and administrative policies
Summary
Salem Township auditors appointed a chair and secretary, approved overtime, vacation, sick-leave, holidays, a boot allowance and mileage reimbursement, and scheduled a Jan. 21 meeting to adopt the formal compensation resolution.
At the Jan. 6 reorganization meeting, the Salem Township Board of Auditors confirmed leadership and a package of personnel and administrative policies for 2026.
David Leitza moved and Nick Cornell seconded the appointment of Matt Rebitch as Chairperson; the motion passed unanimously. The board also appointed Kelly Otto as Secretary by unanimous vote.
The auditors adopted a series of personnel policies for full-time roadmasters: overtime at one-and-a-half times the hourly rate for hours worked in excess of 40 per week (including paid holidays, sick days and vacation), 19 vacation days per year with up to five days carried into the following year, a requirement that carried-over vacation be used the following year at the rate in which it was earned, eight sick days per year with the ability to carry over up to eight days and an accumulation cap of 30 days that may be paid out at the rate in effect when the days were earned.
The board approved the holiday schedule for 2026, funeral leave rules, continuation of participation in the township pension and existing medical, dental, life and disability insurance plans for full-time roadmasters, a $225 annual boot allowance and business mileage reimbursement at $0.725 per mile per PSATS guidance. All of these motions passed unanimously.
The auditors also voted to hold a second meeting on Jan. 21, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. at the Salem Township Municipal Building solely to approve the Jan. 6 minutes and adopt Resolution No. 01-2026, which had been tabled. The Jan. 6 meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
