Boone High alumni ask council to bless courthouse time capsule tying 1976 and 2026 classes

The speakers said they planned to site the capsule at the courthouse (subject to any required approvals), outlined a suggested list of items and emphasized size limits for the capsule. They said they did not expect to need city funding and already had drop-off points and local media contacts in place to publicize the project.
"We have all kinds of things going on this year for our 50th anniversary... We're opening this up for the city of Booneville and the whole county," one of the commenters said, describing the plan as a joint effort between the 1976 and 2026 classes.
Council members asked practical questions about longevity and stewardship of the capsule and requested an update within about 60 days. The commenters said there is currently an existing capsule scheduled to be opened in about 13 years and that their group was still finalizing some details including a slab and written agreements.
When asked if the council’s response constituted approval, one of the commenters said, "I take it that's, kind of an unofficial approval," and councilors confirmed they were willing to support and assist with publicity and logistics as appropriate. The commenters said they would firm up details and return with an update.
No formal action or vote was required; the item was recorded as public comment and the council requested follow-up information.
