Dyer police and fire chiefs report May activity to safety board

The Dyer Safety Board heard monthly reports from the police and fire departments on June 16.
Police Chief Allcott reported that in May the department responded to 719 incidents, made 35 arrests and recorded 561 traffic stops; the chief thanked department personnel and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for mutual support at the recent DyerFest public-safety detail.
Fire Chief Joe Martin reported 189 total calls for service in May, 66 hours of training by personnel, 18 fire and life-safety inspections and participation in an auto-extrication training and a tabletop disaster exercise. Chief Martin also noted the department’s Hoosier Burn Camp boot drive raised $2,100.
Board members accepted both monthly reports and the appropriation reports as a matter of record; there were no formal policy votes tied to the reports.
