The Topsham Energy Committee agreed to a short, scannable town crier blurb and a coordinated online outreach plan that will include a YouTube playlist and updated QR codes linking directly to committee content.
Jackie, a committee member who is coordinating the invasive-species blurb, said she will provide text for the crier by the end of the week and confirmed the presentation is scheduled for August 25 at 6 p.m. The group discussed print constraints and decided a light (white) background would likely print better in the crier; the Chair said Pam needs final materials "for tomorrow" to meet the publication schedule.
Why it matters: The committee is aiming to raise in-person attendance at education sessions and to provide easy online access to recorded webinars. Members prioritized short copy for the crier and a single, trackable QR destination to measure engagement.
YouTube, QR codes and the committee webpage A committee member who reviewed the town YouTube channel recommended adding older webinars to an 'Energy Committee' playlist and suggested placing that playlist prominently on the channel's home page. The member noted the playlist's most recent video was about a year old while webinars on the town website go back four years.
The committee also found a sample QR code in the template that mistakenly linked to an unrelated Wikipedia page. "So we need to remove it," the Chair said; members agreed to replace the example with a QR that links directly to the committee's YouTube posting to reduce extra clicks and make tracking easier.
Communications schedule and materials Committee members discussed publishing cadence (one crier item plus one online item per month, or two items per month) and a brief review process for copy and posters. They also agreed to create a poster template and to retain review of larger posters at meetings while online quick facts can be handled by email. The committee asked staff to verify website links and to include downloadable materials, such as Kurt's PowerPoint, alongside video posts.
Actions recorded The committee approved the May 19 minutes earlier in the meeting by voice vote after a motion and second. At the end of the session Chair moved to adjourn, a committee member seconded, and the meeting was closed. The next meeting is July 21.
The committee plans to finalize crier text this week and will update the QR code and the YouTube playlist as part of its outreach next steps.
