Salem Township board approves $200,349 in expenditures, hires road crew member and OKs small reimbursements

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors on Feb. 18 unanimously approved monthly disbursements totaling $200,349.60 and moved to staff and small expense actions affecting township operations.
In a roll call vote Supervisors Kerry Jobe, Bob Zundel and Todd Paulich approved expenditures allocated to the General Fund ($124,177.62), Payroll ($50,892.53), Sewage ($825.00), Liquid Fuels ($21,681.74), Street Lights ($499.54) and Machinery ($2,273.17), a combined total of $200,349.60. The motion was made by Todd Paulich and seconded by Bob Zundel.
The board also unanimously hired Blaise Defrances as a full‑time road crew employee, a move the supervisors said will bolster local road maintenance capacity. The supervisors approved a $2,000 reimbursement to the Recreation Board from Act 13 funds to pay for a rented portable toilet for park events.
Supervisors additionally approved a volunteer firefighter tax credit roster for the Slickville and Forbes Road volunteer fire departments.
The meeting packet showed the board moved one million dollars from the General Fund into a certificate of deposit earning 3.25 percent, a Treasurer’s Office decision discussed during the treasurer’s report.
