Kathleen Vincent, Milwaukee County supervisor for District 11, briefed the Village Board on county funding opportunities and local safety ideas. "Milwaukee County anticipates receiving approximately $1,700,000 in community development block grant funding and approximately $1,100,000 in HOME funding," Vincent said, and she urged eligible municipalities and nonprofits to consider projects that might qualify.
Vincent highlighted the raised crosswalk on Broad Street as a successful local safety improvement and suggested the Northway crosswalk by St. Luke's Church at the end of Arrowwood Avenue has had several close calls and might benefit from a raised crosswalk or other traffic-calming measures. "A raised crosswalk or similar traffic calming pedestrian safety improvement at that location could potentially enhance safety for residents, students, parishioners, and families who use that crosswalk every day," she said, and offered to help the village connect with county staff to explore whether such work would qualify for CDBG or HOME support.
Vincent also described summer outreach events she will host in Greendale and Greenfield and said county staff can help the village identify suitable projects and application support during the June 23–July 22 application window.
