The Village Board approved the first amendment to the Amended and Restated Redevelopment Agreement with Bolbrook and South Ridge, LLC to extend the developer's deadline to initiate demolition by 30 days, moving the deadline from June 17 to July 17.
The Village Manager said the developer requested the extension while working through contracts and budgets. "So this would extend it from June 17 to July 17, and that would be the deadline that the developer has to start demolition activities," the Village Manager explained.
During public comment, Joe Russ criticized the extension and the timing. "It took you guys five years to get to this point...and now you're doing an extension...it doesn't add up," Russ said, urging the board to reconsider granting extra time so soon after the property changed hands.
Trustees discussed the matter briefly; on roll call the amendment passed with a single recorded "No" vote. The board then moved into other business and later voted to convene in closed session for separate real-estate negotiations (the Welcome Center lease).
