The Village Board approved a revision to Section 2.2 of the personnel manual that changes overtime calculation for nonunion hourly employees from being triggered after eight hours in a day to being calculated on a 40‑hour workweek basis. The Village Manager presented the change as a modernization to better align with common practice and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
"Currently we consider overtime being paid for any time worked over 8 hours in a day," the Village Manager said in explanation, adding that adopting a 40‑hour standard gives managers more flexibility to flex hours across a week to avoid overtime costs. The manager described the change as having minimal operational impacts across the organization but potentially reducing overtime expense when schedules are flexed.
Trustees discussed the recommendation briefly. On the roll call, all trustees recorded affirmative votes except Trustee McFaul, who was recorded as voting "No." The motion carried and the personnel manual revision was adopted.
The board asked staff to implement the change and to monitor impacts; the clerk will record the revised policy in personnel files and post updated guidance for affected employees.
