Board approves early purchase of district servers to avoid projected price increases

However, multiple vendor quotes in recent months showed price increases of about 20% in December and projections of as much as 50% by July.
"If we wait till the summer, the vendors are telling us they can't lock in prices; they're expecting it to be 50% more," the IT presenter said, recommending the district reallocate existing budget items and purchase the server equipment now. The district’s five‑year plan estimated the system replacement at $80,000–$100,000; the presenter said a 50% jump could add roughly $40,000–$50,000 to that cost.
Board members moved and seconded a motion to approve the purchase in the 2025–26 budget period rather than waiting for 2026–27; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with 'aye' responses recorded in the minutes.
Why it matters: Servers host critical infrastructure and student records; delaying replacement risks paying substantially higher prices later, the administration argued.
The board approved the purchase and the administration said other planned purchases (phones, classroom touch boards) will be delayed until summer when vendor pricing appears more stable.
