The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on June 17 granted permits and modest service budgets for a slate of community events and fundraisers.
Karen Brown, speaking for the Crown Point High School dance team booster club, asked for three boot-drive fundraising dates in July and August; the board approved the request. Dan Corbin, representing the hockey club, requested three fundraising dates in August and September and the board approved that request as well. Mark Wilkins, senior pastor at 1st Methodist, requested a road closure and signage for Vet Rock on Aug. 28; he said past events helped raise more than $100,000 for veterans organizations in Northwest Indiana. The board approved the closure and permitted signs.
A business representative identified as Josh asked permission for three to four sidewalk tables and an A-frame sign for Back in Time Donuts and Creamery at 106 North Main Street; staff said the layout matched a previous approval at the location and legal raised no objections. The board approved the outdoor seating and advertising.
Adam asked for a blanket $3,000 allocation for services for a Bulldog Park block party and a budget not to exceed $10,000 for marketing, sound and production for a July 11 employee appreciation concert; the board approved both allocations. Adam also requested and received board approval for a city partnership to host the Aug. 1 all-class reunion; staff said roughly 800 to 1,000 alumni attended last year.
All event- and permit-related items were approved by voice vote; the transcript records motions and approvals but not roll-call tallies.
