The Batesville City Council voted to vacate and abandon a segment of Industrial Drive between Grand Drive and Sherrill (Cheryl) Lane, clearing the way for adjacent property transactions and subject to existing utility easements.
City Attorney Tim Meitzer read the ordinance title on the record. Council discussed that the property abuts a business referred to as 'Bad Boy' and noted that negotiations between property owners were ongoing. After a reading, the council voted to suspend rules and waive the second and third readings; the ordinance passed by voice vote. Meitzer read emergency language declaring the measure immediately effective "for the public peace, health, safety and welfare."
The city recorded the ordinance as adopted on the motion and carried by voice vote; no roll‑call tally was recorded in the public minutes. The public hearing on the street closing had been opened earlier and closed with no members of the public speaking to the matter.
The action places conditions on the vacated right‑of‑way for utility easements and references exhibits that describe the affected property boundaries.
