Karen Schmitz told the joint committees she has a meeting with the railroad on Friday at 9 a.m. related to Memorial Park work and has met with contractors about plantings at Jacoby Memorial Park; she said she expects to receive a site-prep list for a May 25–June 1 installation window.
Co-Chairman Rachel Fuller reported that the soldiers cross carving for Memorial Park has been completed but that the committee still needs to determine who will cover the cost; she said the committee intends to seek a grant to cover project expenses. Fuller asked each committee member to develop ideas for a Vibrant Spaces grant application that supports multiuse park features.
Fuller also outlined a proposed Small Business Development Grant/Downtown Business Improvement Program intended to help local businesses with interior or exterior improvements. Becky Soerens asked about the program’s timeline; Fuller said the program would begin in July and that applications should be submitted by May. John Rassel suggested that projects be shovel-ready before committee approval to speed implementation.
Calendar items noted during the meeting include an RFP related to the Vibrant Spaces grant on March 17 and a railroad update for Memorial Park on March 24.
