Bay Lakes presents CORP update to Random Lake committees; community survey slated for June

Lydia Bernhoft of Bay Lakes presented a draft update to the village's Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) during the Feb. 10 Joint Beautification/Lake, Parks, and Recreation meeting, saying, “The main purpose of the plan is to be helpful for funding” and that the plan will serve as an inventory of village park properties. Bernhoft requested that the committees send any prior plans to her and said the consultant will circulate a community survey in June to gather resident input.
Committee members discussed next steps and timetable. Member Chuck Mueller asked whether Bay Lakes would provide grant-writing services during the planning process; Bernhoft replied that grant writing is not included in Bay Lakes' current scope but could be pursued after the plan is complete. Co-Chairman Rachel Fuller told the committees the next joint meeting is set for March 10 at 5:30 p.m., when the group will begin defining goals and objectives that Bernhoft said should be “cohesive and obtainable.”
The update focused on establishing a clear inventory and timeline to make the village more competitive for funding and to inform park- and recreation-related priorities. The committee did not take formal action on the CORP update at the meeting; staff and members were assigned to gather previous plans and to prepare for the March meeting where objectives and priorities will be drafted.
