Keller ISD board renews district-of-innovation plan and calls special election for Place 6
Summary
The board approved renewal of the district-of-innovation plan (no new exemptions; some previously allowed exemptions removed to comply with state law) and voted to call a special election for Board Place 6 on the November 2026 ballot after the board could not fill the vacancy by statute; both actions passed 6–0.

The board voted unanimously to renew the district’s District of Innovation (DOI) plan after committee review and public posting. Staff said no new statutory exemptions were added and that several exemptions were removed to comply with recent changes in state law (for example, exemptions from parts of Chapter 37 related to student discipline). Trustees asked for confirmation that teacher planning minutes and master-schedule protections remain enforced; staff said the intent and protections remain and campus master-schedule review ensures compliance.
Separately, the board approved calling a special election for Place 6 on the Keller ISD Board of Trustees for the November 2026 ballot after explaining that the board had been unable to fill the vacancy within the statutory timeline. The special election will fill the remainder of the term and filing windows and deadlines were previewed by staff.
Both actions passed by unanimous votes.
