Public Safety staff also described plans for a new visitor management system that will allow advance registration and on‑site kiosks for ID scanning or manual entry; staff said the new system will offer multiple modes (pre‑registration, driver’s‑license swipe or manual entry) and be safe for persons with medical devices, with wand‑search options retained for individuals who prefer not to walk through metal detection.
Council emphasized that elected officials and staff are not exempt from the system. Staff told the council they will provide training on the visitor experience and procedures for medical exceptions and that both the weapons‑detection and visitor management updates are part of an overall initiative to modernize the City Hall visitor experience.
