Council schedules July 20 hearing to correct Kent Industrial Center special assessment

The Wyoming City Council voted July 6 to schedule a public hearing on July 20 to correct a supplemental special assessment tied to replacement of the median irrigation system at the Kent Industrial Center.
City staff told the council that a supplemental assessment approved in May was inadvertently calculated using parcel size rather than the original method that apportioned cost by proximity to the median. "The original special assessment was calculated based on the parcel's proximity to the median... This 1 was inadvertently calculated based on parcel size," a staff member said. Staff said bills had not yet been mailed and the error can be corrected through a new hearing and reapproval.
The council approved setting the hearing and directed staff to return a resolution on July 20 that will re-calculate the assessment using the method consistent with the original 2023 assessment. No final re-approval of the assessment occurred on July 6; the public hearing will provide an opportunity for property owners to comment before the council takes further action.
