Director reports four Sacramento nominations on State agenda, requests delay for one delisting

Preservation Director Sean DeCourcy reported to the Preservation Commission on June 17 that staff received notice the State Historical Resources Commission has scheduled four Sacramento items for its Aug. 7, 2026 meeting: three nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and one proposed delisting.
DeCourcy summarized the nominations as including Grant Union High School (Spanish Colonial Revival campus constructed 1934'1940), a Thompson Diggs company warehouse associated with local industrial history, and the El Dorado School nomination that the commission considered that evening. He said one contributing property in the Alkali Flat Central Historic District is proposed for delisting because it was constructed outside the district's established period of significance.
Because the city commission does not meet in July, DeCourcy said staff requested the State Office of Historic Preservation continue the delisting item to a later hearing to allow local review and comment, which the staff believes is appropriate given the property's local listing in a historic district updated in 2018. He said the other nominations are standard and non-controversial but the delisting merits additional local consideration.
DeCourcy said staff will coordinate with the Office of Historic Preservation and keep the commission informed of schedule changes.
