The Pitman Boro School District Board of Education on June 10 approved routine finance and facilities items and authorized several personnel hires, the board president said.
The board unanimously approved agenda items 1 through 21 after a report from Finance and Facilities Committee Chairwoman Bolt, who said the items included payment of regular bills, transfers of any excess surplus into capital reserves pending the annual audit, approval of the district's professionals and solicitor, an updated substitute nurse rate and next year's student lunch price, which remains unchanged.
"We talked about our referendum projects, which are moving as scheduled and on budget so far," Bolt said during her committee report.
The committee also noted that Wall School is being leased to Washington Township this year and that Memorial School will have a piece of playground equipment removed to improve safety for the youngest students. The motion to approve items 1'21 carried on a voice vote in which trustees present voted yes.
In a separate motion, the Curriculum and Instruction Committee's recommendations to adopt items 1 through 60 were approved. The board approved multiple new hires listed on the agenda: Lauren Ritchie (art teacher at PES), Carrie McConnell (technology/STEM teacher), Nicole Leahy (preschool teacher at Memorial School), Riley Dawson (part-time gross motor teacher for the preschool program) and Danette Thomas, a full-time in-district board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA). The committee reported the district completed its six-year special education review with only minor corrections; the acceptance of the Office of Special Education's tier 1 monitoring closeout letter was on the agenda.
Superintendent Dr. Preston thanked staff for their work on recognition events and construction oversight as referendum projects continue; he said HVAC, steel and bathroom work are under way and generally on schedule.
The board also accepted the semiannual HIB (harassment, intimidation and bullying) report and noted that routine security drills had been completed. No formal action was taken beyond the approvals listed.
The board then moved into executive session to discuss a personnel matter and did not expect to take public action afterward.
