Omaha council approves several liquor licenses, rejects automotive special-use permit

The Omaha City Council on Tuesday approved multiple liquor-license applications for businesses in Midtown and South Omaha and rejected a special-use permit for automotive sales at 4801 Q Street.
The council unanimously approved a Class C liquor license for "There There," a proposed all-day café and wine bar at 3020 Leavenworth Street. Applicant Katina Talley (S7) told the council her operation — a partnership with Ivy Sutton — will serve European-style plates, handmade pasta and low-intervention wines, and will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Talley said she also owns Sweet Magnolias Bakeshop and No Good Bagels and Brunchette in Omaha. Council members voiced support and the motion to approve passed 7–0.
A Class C license for San Patrios Cantina and Pub at 3232 L Street was also approved 7–0. Francisco Gonzales (S8), who recently purchased Donahue's Pub, said the business will remain an Irish bar and grill and that he intends to keep and light the mural on the building's side. Councilmember Hugg (S6) praised the establishment's long-standing role in South Omaha.
The council approved a Class A liquor license for Craft Axe Omaha (2562 Leavenworth Street, Suite 100). Sean Murphy (S12), appearing by Zoom, said the ownership change would not materially change the venue; he provided operating hours and minor interior update plans. That vote passed 7–0.
Meadowlark Lounge's application for an outdoor Tandon area at 3302 Leavenworth Street (item 9) was approved after applicants Ross Coley and Mike Wedemeyer (S15) described plans for a safer deck and renovation. The motion passed 7–0.
Item 10, a resolution to approve a special-use permit to allow automotive sales in the CC District at 4801 Q Street, failed on roll call 3–4 after the Planning Board and Planning Department recommended approval.
What happens next: Approved licenses will move forward with standard administrative processing; the failed special-use permit will not be authorized unless brought back in a future agenda.
