TARRANT CITY — The Tarrant City Board of Education entered executive session Oct. 29 under the Alabama Open Meeting Act to discuss a student disciplinary matter and later approved a superintendent recommendation concerning Student 2023‑004 in open session.
According to the meeting record, the board voted to meet in executive session under Ala. Code 36‑25A‑2 and Ala. Code 36‑25A‑7(a)(2). The board entered executive session at 6:40 p.m. and reconvened in open session at 7:08 p.m. The minutes state that no action was taken while in executive session.
After returning to open session, Superintendent Dr. Sherlene McDonald presented a recommendation related to Student 2023‑004. Jesse Mendez moved to approve the superintendent’s recommendation; Allen Bailey seconded, and the motion was recorded as unanimously approved. The superintendent will notify the student’s parents in writing, per the minutes.
The transcript records a separate reentry meeting for Student 2024‑003 that occurred in executive session; the minutes do not show open‑session action on that reentry during this meeting.
Because student disciplinary matters are protected by district policy and state law, the minutes do not include identifying details beyond the case codes used in the record. The board adjourned after completing its recorded business.
