The Lake, Parks and Recreation Committee heard a presentation Feb. 17 on a proposed bandstand at Bob McDermott Lakeview Park and indicated members were ready to forward the proposal to the village board for further consideration.
Duane Urbanski described the location for the bandstand and told the committee that one tree in the chosen footprint would need to be removed and relocated within the park or elsewhere in the village. He proposed a construction driveway off Russell Drive to prevent damage to park turf during work and suggested leaving that driveway in place as permanent access for bands.
Chairman Blaine Werner said he was concerned the structure would reduce space used for picnicking. Member Rachel Fuller suggested moving the bandstand slightly north so it aligns with the pavilion sidewalk and said there is sufficient information to send the request on to the board for review. The committee did not record a formal vote on forwarding the proposal during this meeting.
Werner also requested that an article be placed in the local paper before any final approval, giving the public a chance to comment. No contractor, construction schedule, funding source or formal agreement language was provided at the meeting; those details remain to be supplied to the village board and recorded for public review.
