President Sheaka Collins called the meeting to order. Dr. Sherlene McDonald, the district superintendent, presented the agenda and later introduced each business item, recommending approval. Board members moved and seconded the routine actions — motions were consistently approved on unanimous votes.
Why it matters: The board’s approvals cleared routine governance items including the district’s year-end financials and contracting and staffing paperwork, enabling ongoing operations and projects such as the THS construction fund referenced in the financial report.
What happened: - Adopted agenda: Dr. Sherlene McDonald recommended adoption; Debbie Hall moved to adopt the agenda and Laura Horton seconded. The motion carried unanimously. - Minutes: The board approved minutes from the Dec. 17, 2024 regular meeting after a motion from Allen Bailey and a second from Jesse Mendez. - Financial reports: McDonald presented December 2024 financial reports and reconciled bank statements, covering the General Fund, Federal Programs, Child Nutrition, the THS Construction Fund and individual school accounts; the board approved the reports on a unanimous vote after a motion by Allen Bailey and second by Debbie Hall. - Contracts: Contract items presented by the superintendent were approved following a motion by Allen Bailey and a second from Jesse Mendez. - Personnel: The personnel action sheet was presented and approved after a motion by Debbie Hall and a second by Jesse Mendez.
The board also observed Board Member Appreciation Month and recognized the district’s Teachers of the Year: Latonya Rogers (Tarrant High School), Sandy Mahner (Tarrant Elementary School) and Andrea Cockrell-Gibbs (Tarrant Intermediate School).
Announcements from Superintendent McDonald included vacancies, a property survey, compliance monitoring, basketball, plans for an enclosed walkway at TIS, the old THS bandroom and auditorium, LED sign projects at THS and TIS, and other upcoming events. There was no public comment.
The meeting was adjourned after Laura Horton moved to adjourn and Jesse Mendez seconded. Voting members listed in the meeting record were Allen Bailey, Jesse Mendez (vice president), Sheaka Collins (president), Debbie Hall and Laura Horton.
