Commission amends El Dorado school nomination and forwards recommendation to City Council

Conservation planner Henry Fuse (who identified himself during the hearing) told the Commission that staff would revise the ordinance language to remove a proposed statement that treated the full extent of the property as a defining characteristic, because that description could unduly limit future adaptive-reuse options. Several public speakers voiced support: William Borg of Preservation Sacramento outlined parallel municipal and state nomination processes; Bruce Marrick (Art Deco Society of Sacramento) urged preservation of the auditorium and mural; and a representative of East Sacramento preservation described volunteer and community support.
Commissioner Cross moved to amend the ordinance to remove the "parcel extent" language and forward the revised recommendation to City Council; Vice President Merker seconded. The Commission approved the amended motion by voice vote with no opposition or abstentions recorded.
