Hammonton board approves bulk of finance and personnel items as budget process continues

The Hammonton Board of Education voted April 16 to approve a package of finance, personnel and student items as the district moves toward finalizing its 2026–27 budget.

Board President Lyons called for a motion to approve finance items 1–42; the motion passed on roll call vote. The board then approved personnel items 43–80; the transcript records an abstention on personnel item 61 by Mrs. Baranato. Later in the meeting the board approved grants and miscellaneous items 81–87 and addendum finance items 88–89. Personnel items 90–92 were approved, with recorded abstentions on item 92 by at least two board members.

Why it matters: passing these consent and personnel packages keeps day-to-day district operations on schedule and clears the way for trustees to finalize the proposed 2026–27 budget. President Lyons told the board the administration will return on April 30 with a comprehensive budget presentation.

The meeting record shows routine roll-call votes with multiple members voting in the affirmative and two members absent. Where members publicly recorded abstentions the board clerk noted them for the official minutes: Mrs. Baranato stated she would abstain on item 61; Mrs. Stroud recorded an abstention for item 92.

Procedural next steps: the board is scheduled to receive the full budget presentation at its April 30 meeting, at which trustees will consider formal adoption of the 2026–27 budget.

At the April 16 meeting the board also approved several smaller budget and personnel adjustments by unanimous or near‑unanimous roll call, allowing district work—contracts, staffing and student programs—to continue while the district completes its formal budget process.
