The Hamilton Board of Education on June 18 approved a resolution to accept a revised payment schedule for Waterford’s outstanding tuition balance of $555,207 for the 2026–27 year, moving the final payment to no later than June 2028.
"Resolution that the Waterford Board of Education has requested an extension of time to pay $555,207 of the 2026–27 tuition payments ... due to be paid no later than June 2028," said Donio during the board’s presentation of the request. The proposal, brought to the board after a joint meeting with Waterford and Folsom representatives, was recommended to the finance committee as a deferral option.
Board staff clarified the measure does not change published tuition rates or the district’s budget. "This will not affect our budget," a finance representative said during discussion, adding the district would record a receivable for the deferred amount. The superintendent noted the vote was intended to support students who attend Hamilton schools from neighboring districts while preserving Hamilton’s fiscal position.
Board members asked for clarification about the payment timeline and the mechanics of the agreement. After discussion the board took a roll-call vote; members recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried.
The resolution will be recorded as an amendment to the existing interdistrict tuition agreement; the board said it expects the adjusted schedule to give Waterford time to address its fiscal constraints without reducing the tuition billed to Hamilton.
Next steps: the board will finalize the amendment to the existing tuition contract and publish the revised schedule in the district records.
