Hamilton council refers proposed restriction on warehouses in R&D zones to planning board

The Hamilton Township Council introduced a pair of resolutions to refer proposed zoning changes that would remove warehouse uses from research-and-development (R&D) zones and send the proposals to the planning board for review.
Clerk and council members said the change would restrict where new warehouses can be built while leaving industrial districts unaffected. "We're restricting any additional warehouses in R and D. We're going to continue to allow it in the industrial," a council member said, noting the intent is to preserve open space and limit warehouse conversions in R&D areas.
Council opened the matter for public comment. Resident Lisa Williams asked how many warehouse projects are currently in process within R&D zones and whether pending applications would be affected; council representatives said they did not have a count available and that referrals to planning would determine the next steps.
Council took no final zoning vote; the resolutions were moved to planning for study and any recommended changes would return to council for further action. Officials said the planning board review is required to confirm compliance with local land‑use rules and master-plan procedures.
