Hamilton staff to apply for Green Acres grant to upgrade pocket-park basketball courts

Carlin described the quote as roughly $100,000 for the project and said Green Acres covers 25%—about $25,000—with the township expected to certify a $75,000 match. She said staff will pursue other grant opportunities (including the LRIG program) to pay the match and, if necessary, use capital funds subject to council approval. “This particular grant only covers 25% of it… the quote was $100,000… the grant would cover $25,000,” Carlin said.
Timing and process: Carlin said a public hearing is required before applying; staff plans to bring a resolution authorizing the application at a future council meeting (the next meeting or the second meeting in February, depending on public-notice timing) so the application can be submitted before the March deadline. If awarded, Carlin said the town could begin work once awards are announced, but projects and any reimbursable work must be dated after the award.
Council members asked about the grant’s timeline and eligibility for reimbursement; staff said Green Acres sometimes allows extensions but that the township usually waits for award approval before starting reimbursable work. Members also discussed alternative venues and funding sources if the LRIG match is not secured.
Next steps: Staff will return with a resolution seeking council approval to apply at the next or the following meeting, pursue LRIG or other matching funds, and refine the contractor’s quote before final approval.
