Grafton council approves $750,000 sewer bond, makes appointments and tables ambulance gift request

The Grafton City Council on March 10 approved a series of routine and financial measures, including a $750,000 sewer revenue bond and several administrative appointments, while tabling a proposal to gift ambulance property to the Valley Ambulance and Rescue Service.
Mayor Chris West presided over the meeting. Council adopted Resolution No. 1806 authorizing the issuance and sale of $750,000 in City of Grafton Sewer Revenue Bonds, Series 2025. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Mr. Greg Young and seconded by Mr. Brad Burianek; the council recorded six yes votes, none opposed, with two members absent.
The council also appointed Nick Ziegelmann as the city’s representative on the Northern Municipal Power Agency Advisory Council and reappointed Heather McMillian to the Carnegie Regional Library Board for a three-year term; those motions carried on roll-call votes. The council approved a lease renewal for the Grafton Golfers contingent on the golf course complying with North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality testing and regulatory requirements for wastewater irrigation. The council also approved an alcohol-license extension request for Grafton Company, Inc. d/b/a Extra End for an April 12 fundraiser at the Centennial Center.

The council tabled a request from Valley Ambulance and Rescue Service to transfer ownership of an ambulance building, its contents and ambulances to the service so staff have time to review VARS’s financial viability. City Attorney Rob Fleming asked for the delay to perform due diligence; the motion to table was moved by Mr. Young and seconded by Mr. Brad Burianek and carried unanimously among members present.
The meeting concluded after announcements about a Board of Equalization meeting on April 8 and a tentative employee appreciation event April 25.
