The Grafton City Council on Dec. 9, 2024, approved a $29,800 design engineering contract with KLJ to paint the city’s south water tower, to be paid from Prairie Dog funds, and approved a separate $3,000 contract with Moore Engineering to prepare grant application documentation for replacement of AC waterlines.
Jeff Daley of KLJ reported the final pay estimate for the Chip Seal project — the retainage — was sent to Administrator Nick Ziegelmann and was just under $5,000. Daley said Strata will assess 14th Street West in the spring and provide a pavement proposal; no payment on the pavement portion will be made until further information is received.
Administrator Ziegelmann reported that 636 Prospect was demolished in November and that 131 Hill is scheduled for demolition in the spring after the city received a favorable opinion from District Court allowing the action to proceed.
All motions related to the KLJ and Moore Engineering contracts and the cemetery caretaker renewal passed on unanimous roll call votes as recorded in the minutes. The council did not specify construction schedules or detailed timelines for the water‑tower painting or AC waterline grant application in the minutes.
Next steps include completion of Strata’s assessment in spring, processing of the grant application documentation by Moore Engineering, and standard contract administration steps for the KLJ work and related projects.
