Daviess County approves highway agreements, bridge contract and extra leave for snow crews

The Daviess County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved several highway measures Tuesday that the county’s highway supervisor said will support local road maintenance and upcoming bridge work.
Chris Winkler, Daviess County Highway Supervisor, told the board the department is updating speed-limit signage in Raglesville to set a 25 mph limit ahead of a new school and presented two longstanding interlocal maintenance agreements: $2,000 with the Town of Cannelburg to cover roughly 0.51 miles on Kleberg Road, and $1,200 with the Town of Montgomery for about 0.49 miles. The commissioners approved both agreements.
Winkler also said a previously approved contractor for Bridge 176, CLR, had not yet executed its contract and asked the board to approve the contract; the commissioners voted to approve it. He confirmed a single accepted bid for Farm Lease #1 and asked the board to sign leases for both Farm Lease #1 and Farm Lease #2, which the board approved.
On planning, Winkler said the county has advertised a Request for Proposals for countywide bridge inspection services covering 2027–2030; letters of interest are due March 30. He said Indiana Department of Transportation changes to railcar inspection requirements mean more frequent inspections for some structures and provided a countywide inspection estimate of $433,152 with a 20% local match.
The board approved two additional "float" days for each Highway Department employee to compensate overtime worked during snow-removal operations Jan. 24–27. Winkler also presented two LPA voucher claims for reimbursement: Claim 13, $29,198.02 for preliminary engineering on the US 50 roundabout (90% reimbursable), and Claim 9, $547.83 for construction engineering on the Old US 50 bridge over Cobert Ditch (80% reimbursable); both vouchers were approved.
The commissioners' action completes a set of routine highway approvals the board said are intended to keep local road projects and maintenance contracts on schedule.
