The Town of Campton Zoning Board of Adjustment on July 11 approved a variance for an entry sign for LCJ (doing business as Owl's Nest Resort) to be built over Potchway Road.
Alexandria Brener, representing LCJ, presented design details and argued the proposal met the five statutory criteria for a variance. She described the sign as 17 feet 6 inches tall and 39 feet 4 inches wide, with lettering 2 feet 10 inches high and a central owl figure 5 feet 9 inches tall; any lighting added would be dark‑sky compliant. Board members and abutters asked clarifying questions and at least one abutter voiced support for the proposal.
The board moved to approve the variance on a roll-call vote. Alicia Williams moved to approve the application; Janet Lucas seconded. The recorded vote was Alicia Williams — aye; Janet Lucas — aye; Margaret Sweeney — nay; Lee Williams — aye; Charlie Wheeler — aye, and the board granted the variance.
The approval allows LCJ to install the sign as presented, subject to the site and lighting details described at the hearing. The minutes do not record additional conditions attached to the variance or a follow-up enforcement plan. The public hearing for this item opened and concluded during the meeting; the board left the public hearing at 7:22 p.m.
