The RSU 18 board approved several operational motions during its meeting: the Mid Maine Regional adult-education budget, a request from the town of Sydney to use James H. Bean School for a June 9 election while students attend a field-day program, and two lease purchases for technology and maintenance/transportation replacement cycles.
Adult-education budget: Board member Sarah moved to approve the FY27 Mid Maine Regional adult-education budget as presented; the motion was seconded by Andy and the board approved it unanimously after discussion about historical spending fluctuations and how director wages had been coded in prior years. Staff had said the district's share of expenses is about $70,000 with roughly $20,000 of state subsidy and that last fall 25 classes ran at the high school (about 171 participants, nearly 100 from RSU 18 towns).
Sydney voting site: The board considered a request to allow the town of Sydney to use James H. Bean School for voting on June 9 and to provide a supervised off-site day (Camp Tracy) for Dean School students so they would not lose a school day. The board discussed logistics (state approval of polling places, ADA access, parking and security sweeps). After a motion and second, the board approved the plan.
Leases: District staff presented the regular replacement-cycle technology lease request of $500,000 to smooth budget peaks; a motion to approve that lease was moved and seconded and the board proceeded to vote. The board also approved a maintenance/transportation lease for replacement equipment including a dump-body trailer, a van and custodial equipment.
Votes at a glance: - Mid Maine Regional adult-education budget — motion by Sarah; seconded by Andy; outcome: approved (unanimous). - Use of James H. Bean School by the town of Sydney on June 9 — motion moved and seconded; outcome: approved (motion carries). - Technology lease ($500,000) — motion moved and seconded; outcome: approved. - Maintenance/transportation lease (vehicle and equipment replacements) — motion moved and seconded; outcome: approved.
Board members requested additional documentation on certain line items (for example, a breakdown of the school-board line and a timeline/graph of historical technology investments) to be provided at a future meeting.
