Board signs off on $1.46 million in claims, awards multiple roofing contracts and opens Anna Park bid

The Muncie Board of Works and Safety approved the city claims register on June 17 after City Controller Craig Wright presented the register and noted upcoming bond payments. The board approved payment of the claims in the amount of $1,456,668.06.

Nikkita Adams of Community Development presented six roofing contracts for the homeowner-rehab program, providing bid comparisons and the selection rationale. For 509 South Elliot, A and S Roofing was chosen for $10,975 (roughly $286 higher than the lowest bid) because the company added an extra protective layer on a known leaking area. For 2013 West 10th Street, Regal Roofing was the lowest at $9,767 and was selected. For 1912 East 18th Street, Regal was selected at $10,371. For 2208 North Milton Regal was selected (lowest at $9,009.46). For 4801 West River Road Regal was selected (lowest bid reported); for 906 West 14th Street the award went to A and S at $8,900. Adams said a roofing consultant reviewed properties and the board approved the contracts as presented.

Adam Leach later opened bids for the Anna Park construction solicitation. One bid was read publicly: Flatland Resources at $100,953. The solicitation is a prevailing-wage project using community development funds and, because the anticipated price is between $25,000 and $175,000, the city used a solicitation-for-quote procurement method under Indiana Code; staff said they will take the bids under advisement and return next week to award the contract.

All actions were approved by voice vote during the meeting.
