Lieutenant Jacobson coordinated extra officers and details for downtown Friday and Saturday coverage; the department reported nearly 40 citations, 13 arrests and about 121 calls for service during the May 15–June 13 activity window and logged roughly 300 extra man hours to staff downtown details.
Police described several incidents that required mutual aid and extra officers, including an encounter where an officer approaching a marijuana-smoking call was surrounded by 30–40 people and a separate shots-fired incident reported in the news. To address bar-close disturbances the department will restructure shifts, require some officers to stay later on Friday and Saturday nights, and assign additional supervision to manage large downtown deployments.
Board members thanked police for the visible efforts and noted improvements in downtown conditions; police said they will continue the approach through the end of the downtown season and coordinate with downtown businesses via a task force.
