Commissioners deem Industrial District, Route 228 overlay suitable for data centers; public concerns to be revisited

Township Solicitor Sean Gallagher asked the Adams Township Planning Commission at its May 18 work session whether commissioners still considered the Industrial District and the Route 228 overlay appropriate zoning areas for data centers and power plants. Commission members responded in the affirmative, and Gallagher said any such uses must comply with applicable ordinance requirements.
Commission member Robert Foltz, who said he has worked on installations of numerous data centers and power plants, noted that "there was discussion regarding negative information the public has received, although the underlying facts remain unclear," and the commission agreed to revisit concerns in a future meeting. No formal action or permit was decided at the work session.
The commission did not vote; the discussion was recorded as guidance that the current zoning districts remain suitable but that staff should be prepared to address public concerns and ordinance compliance when specific applications are considered.
