Fincastle council approves staff Christmas bonuses, $1,500 donation to volunteer fire department and tweaks parade rules

At the Dec. 12 meeting, the Fincastle Town Council voted unanimously to give town staff a $200 Christmas bonus each and to disburse the budgeted $1,500 donation to the Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department.
John Thomas moved to approve the staff bonuses; Bill Gaul and Ed Bordett seconded. The motion passed with all members voting yes: Mayor Mary Bess Smith, Ed Bordett, Paige Ware, Bill Gaul, Pam Binns, Jim Reynolds and John Thomas. Thomas also moved the $1,500 donation to the volunteer fire department; Paige Ware seconded and the council again voted unanimously. Mayor Smith reminded the council that the $1,500 donation was included in the town's annual general fund budget.
Councilmember Paige Ware reported that the recent Christmas parade was a success and said the parade rules will be revised to state that no Santas will be on any floats in future years. The change was presented as a rule modification for next year's parade and was noted for inclusion in the parade guidelines.
