Floyd council to advertise $1.039 million FY2027 budget and approve employee bonuses

Councilwoman Lisa Thompson moved to authorize advertisement of the budget for a public hearing on June 3, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., a motion seconded by Vice Mayor Chris Bond and approved on a roll call vote with all members voting yes. Mayor Will Griffin reported the budget figure to the Council during the meeting’s post-closed-session action.
The bonuses were approved after the Council reconvened from a closed session held under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(1) to discuss personnel. Councilman Chris Bower moved, seconded by Councilwoman Thompson, to pay net bonuses of $1,500 for each full-time employee and $750 for the town’s part-time employee; the motion passed on a roll call vote with all members voting yes.
The meeting included adoption of the required certification resolution attesting that the closed session discussed only matters allowed under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. The Council unanimously approved the certification resolution before taking the post-closed-session votes.
The Council will receive public comment on the proposed FY2027 budget at the advertised hearing on June 3 at Floyd Town Hall. The Council adjourned to its next regular meeting scheduled for that date.
